The UK government is poised to announce enhanced collaboration with the United States on cryptocurrency regulation, according to a Financial Times report. The initiative aims to align oversight frameworks and bolster supervision of digital asset markets, which have seen exponential growth in both jurisdictions.

Coordination will center on market conduct, anti-money laundering standards, and stablecoin regulation—areas where fragmented approaches have drawn scrutiny from policymakers. The UK, positioning itself as a potential global hub for digital assets, has already laid groundwork with recent legislation covering stablecoins and digital settlement assets.

Key to these talks is the UK’s draft crypto-asset regime, published in April 2025, which proposes bringing qualifying cryptoassets and stablecoins under the Financial Conduct Authority’s regulatory perimeter. The framework includes conduct and prudential requirements for issuers and custodians.

Meanwhile, the US has taken strides with the July 2025 passage of the GENIUS Act, establishing one of the first comprehensive federal regulatory frameworks for stablecoins, including detailed reserve backing rules.
